Advent Calendar 2023, Day 8. A big bottle of "Saison-style beer" for Friday. This is a 2018 vintage. The beer wears a turbid, pale gold yellow dress. Carbonation lives a long life, it just refuses to die. A small-bubbled off-white head elevates two fingers high and settles gradually down to a cute lace ring on the top. Otherwise the rim of the glass is clean. The olfactory provision is L-O-V-E-L-Y!! I find barnyard or horse stable, leather, brettanomyces, wheat malt and wheat flour. A proposal of durian, lime, wild chamomile and modest barrel notes are almost too shy to join the set. But there they are. Really interesting and intriguing. Almost at the edge of being stale. I 💛 the complexity of the scent. The gustatory profile... falls a bit short of the extraordinarily promising start. Daaamn. I was heading for 4.7–5.0 based on the fragrance but the taste can't exactly reach those levels. Well, anyway. I receive lemon zest and peel, lime, marginal leather, loads of yeast which is not brettanomyces but something else, whitepepper, perhaps raw gooseberry and peels of green grape. The wheat malty backbone is obvious. The diversity of the elements is applaudable, showing hence some complexity. I still would have loved more unpredictability and "stale notes of horse stable". The body is light to light-medium. The finish offers citrusy flavors, faint oak barrel, yeast and wheat malt. Some farmhousey vibes still tickle my taste receptors but move fast to the shadows and die. Forever solidary, I want to be forever solidary; do you really want to be the aftertaste forever? Forever, and ever. The mouthfeel is light-medium, earthy, reasonably funky, complex to some extent, very remotely herbal, even wild. Soft. The label says "tart" but I don't find this tart, moderately sour yes, but not tart. Unique! 💛💛💛

Un bon petit vinaigre américain bien maîtrisé, des notes d'abricot,belle acidité.

A wish for wings that work - The Rare Barrel - 8,3%. Une sour californienne vieillie en fûts de chêne brassée avec du kiwi, de la verveine citronnée et des gousses de vanille. Ce grand format (75cl) propose une bière intéressante, à la robe dorée, trouble, sans bulle apparentes et sans mousse. Au nez, le boisé mêlé au kiwi est omniprésent. On retrouve également des notes de citron vert. La texture est fluide, légère. Les arômes lors de la dégustation sont multiples et s'entremêlent avec harmonie. Une belle synergie ! Le tout sur une base acidulée boisée où le kiwi et la verveine citronnée survolent et donnent un goût frais, fruité et doux à l'ensemble. La vanille est très en retrait, plutôt comme une ponctuation adoucissante. Cette golden sour a une forte teneur en alcool mais n'est pas sirupeuse ni écoeurante et on se surprend à enchaîner des chopes avec une aisance déconcertante. Aucun effet d'ivresse même sur le long terme. Bravo !

Olut on täysin samean likaisen ruskeaa, noin sormen paksuisella luonnonvalkealla vaahdolla. Tuoksu on hyvin marjainen, mustaherukkainen, rusinainen, tamminen, karamellinen ja aavistuksen suklainen. Runko on täyteläinen, raikas, hiilihappoinen ja happaman makea. Maussa on runsaasti kirpeitä marjoja, mustaherukkaa, mustikkaa, viinimarjoja, hieman vadelmaa, mansikkaa, rusinoita ja aavistus tammea. Nyt on kyllä todella moniulotteinen ja mahtavan raikas olut. Runkoa löytyy yllättävän paljon ja vaikka tuoksu ei aivan paljasta kaikkea, niin maku antaa kyllä kaiken, mitä odottikin tältä.

Une robe orange ,peu de mousse, une petillance qui ne dure pas. Au nez le côté sour est omniprésent , on sent déjà le boisé du fût de chêne. Au goût la bière est puissante acide et sature vite les papilles. On apprécie neamoins le côté boisé et le kiwis comme annoncé. Le citron se confond avec l acidité typique d une sour. La vanille est peu présente mais peut être détectée. Belle réussite pour qui aime les sours.
