Tempus Project: Heavy Lord (8 Month Woodford Double Oak)
14.0% Imperial Stout
Kneel before the Heavy lord. Remember when we brewed with the three and only, 3 floyds? The result is here..times 3. Greet Heavy lord, a mash up of their famous Imperial Stout, Dark Lord and our own Imperial Stout, Heavy Water. Aged in fresh Bourbon Barrels for 6 weeks and then infused with Cacao and Vanilla. One part in keg, one part in cask and one part in cask which has been soaked in guatemalan coffee.

Lovely thick syrupy imperial stout. Starts off with raspberry flavours which change to oak then sweet liquorice.

Have to admit this is one fine beer. At 14% it’s actually an easy one to drink.

My first time venturing above 9%, this is understandably unlike anything I’ve tried before. My first thought is “what have I let myself in for?” after “£5 for 1/3, really?”. My second is “this is gonna be special”, after I can smell the beer from a few feet away, knowing that it’s rich with chocolate, coffee and vanilla before even handling the glass. I feel like you could get drunk just off the fumes of this beast, as the nose is as thick with flavour as the taste is. This smells powerful, alcoholic and sweet yet warming. The mouthfeel is oddly carbonated as well as thick as syrup, like the flavour is bursting out of itself. Creamy and velvety, you can tell this is extra ordinary. The flavour is just as the nose gives away. With bags of vanilla chocolate, coffee, port and cinnamon, a dessert wine springs to mind as this tastes as sweet as a sundae but definitely not as sickly. A faint bitter finish reminds your possibly confused brain that this isn’t on the wine list and somehow does belong on tap. Definitely not something to be drank regularly but definitely special.
