In 1996, the brewery innovates and launches Barbãr, a lager with honey.
Born of the ancestral know-how of a family brewery, Barbar beer will please you with its malt taste and subtle flavour of honey. It is brewed using water drawn from artesian wells on the site of the brewery, at Quenast, a small village to the south of Brussels. This area is well-known for the quality and the diversity of its beers.

Some kind of classic, I guess. The appearance is lucid, dark maroon. The carbonation is relatively lively but not extroverted. An off-white froth shoots four fingers high and shrinks soon to a neat lace ring.
Sweet malt, syrup, honey and brown sugar levitate to my nostrils first. A dry-grassy seal can be stamped to the list to make it complete.
The malty slam is drier on the tongue. Marginally roasted. Rye flour, molasses, bitter syrup, raw cacao powder and pine needle. Honey is camouflaged to me.
The body is light. The finish is fairly similar to upfront.
Feels light, moderately roasty, slightly husky and rustic. Unimpressive. I expected something more mind-boggling but the beer turned out characterless.

Une bière originale, le miel n’apporte pas de sucre à la bière mais adoucie le caractère d’une brune.
En bouche on retrouve le gout caractéristique du miel qui se mêle au houblon léger.
