This is a Duo beer I brought back from the beach that Ryan gave me. We had this same beer, Canto IV, for his birthday last year. It was outstanding, an easy 5.0. Hope this one is as good, they aged it in a Weller barrel. Awesome.
Not much head into the snifter glass. Strong, really strong bourbon aroma and plenty of dark fruit, mostly raisin. Not getting any chocolate or coffee. Texture is not as heavy as last year's. Seems just a little on the flat side. As expected it has a strong bourbon with the barrel that dominates the raisin flavor. The middle is a bit off-putting. Somewhat salty tart, maybe black pepper. As it moves into the finish the chocolate appears, proudly. That part is excellent. Starts as milk chocolate and transforms toward a dark chocolate.
This is a good beer but it's not it's last year's equivalent. The bourbon is a little strong, that middle part I don't like, and I never really got the coffee at all. A good beer but it doesn't live up to its name.
