Murky black beer. Suppressed carbonation. A modest fawn lacing on the top. Coffee emanates to my nose first. Bitter. Floury. Raw cacao powder. Roasted malt and dry coconut flakes in the background. The same coffeeish slam on the tongue. Odd. Am I disturbed by cinnamon or what? As if. A pinch of licorice, burned wood, blackberry, coconut flakes and crushed raw cacao bean complete the journey. The sensation is light, burned, powdery, tangy and distantly dry. Not phenomenal this beer. And not a winner this place either but I like the fact that craft beer bars and microbreweries are popping up here and there in Athens. And I guess also elsewhere in 🇬🇷 And the people look alternative, non-binary, punk. Yes! Shake the norms!

I’ve had a few Noctua beers now and they’re generally ok, nothing amazing but decent. This one bucks the trend, it’s definitely the best I’ve had of theirs. Coconut is subtle. The stout leans towards sweet. Chocolate malt character stands out above anything else in that regards. It’s smooth as hell and served cold it’s a great thirst quencher. Coconut and chocolate flavours blossom as it warms.
