Nightcap. The appearance is opaque, pitch black. The carbonation is relatively shy as it produces a tawny velvety head on the top. The one-finger cream layer dwindles to a thick lace ring.
Dark chocolate, fruity sherry and red wine in the scent. And a tweak of plum, as well. Interesting but not particularly intriguing though.
The taste is dry-red-wine-forward. Like sherry. Not tawny port. Purple grape, plum, long soaked wine barrel, astonishingly modest raw chocolate and a newcomer – distant licorice. The list of components is there. This is so seriously geared towards dry red wine that 'balance' is not the word I would use to describe this.
The body is medium. The ABV clocks not less than 13.8 %, and in such a context, the body is far too imperfect. No change flavorwise in the end.
Feels medium at maximum. And vinous, barrel aged, dry and lip-glueing. Balanced? Hell no! Surprisingly fruity for a BA Imperial Stout.
