Distressing news today. One of my favorite Houston breweries closed. Buffalo Bayou is no more. What a great place and fantastic beers. Tonight's Duo with Ryan we are using our Buffalo Bayou glasses in tribute.
Another Houston Brewery, Martin House, has taken a blonde ale and infused it with maraschino cherries and then whiskey barrel aged it. Not a lot of head, crystal clear with an orangish red color. Aroma is totally maraschino cherries. Texture, I can't remember having a 13.1% beer that's so thin. It's blonde characteristic is apparent. Super sweet cherries, and a blast of alcohol. As the finish arrives, traces of the oak barrel appears. The alcohol gets stronger as you drink it.
Their task of delivering a very potent maraschino cherry ale was successful. Flavor was dead on and the abundance of whiskey alcohol did not conflict with the product. Well done.
