Been saving this S'mores dessert Stout from Duclaw. Time to open it up. Very deep color but almost no head. Sweet milk chocolate aroma. A hint of alcohol is hiding in the background. Texture is soft and heavy at first and then develops a crispness to it. I've held on to this beer for quite a while and perhaps it's aging has changed it. But I'm not getting the s'mores flavor I was expecting. Don't get me wrong, it's delicious. Just different. First of all, a very soft milk chocolate is dominant. The next flavors were unexpected. No graham cracker or vanilla. I get more of an amaretto liqueur, flavorful and lasting. The finish adds nutmeg in an interesting combination of flavors. Enveloping everything is an alcohol that seems more intense than 7.5%. I have admonished beers for not delivering on their title, and I probably should on this one. But I really like this. Milk chocolate, amaretto, nutmeg spice all covered in alcohol. Pretty good stuff.
