Can't believe I'm having a second Imperial sour in the same week. A special two beer in a box set from Martin House. These two beer boxes are always good so maybe this one will be too. Only poured a third of a glass to try to get some aroma. Came across as tart with ... wine? The texture is thin and very crisp. Flavor is definitely tart and not sour. Good because I'm not fond of sour. I'm definitely tasting wine, a soft sweet red wine with hints of fruit. Flavor continues until late in the finish when I get the peach. Not the yellowish orange pulp but the meaty bitter center that's blood red right next to the seed. No change until it starts to warm. The warming brought the peach flavor to the forefront. Now I get peach and red wine but no whiskey barrel flavor at all. At 12%, how do you hide that? No alcohol burn, nothing. As the palate acclimates, even the tart quality smooths out. I'm shocked again, but I really like this beer. The peach flavor somehow differentiates from the red wine. No whiskey barrel alcohol. Not sour but deliciously tart. Resembles a wine more than beer. Dangerously good.
