This is another one of Martin House Brewings two cans in a box limited edition. Great to use for Duo beers. A little pricey so they are always good. The moment I opened the can an intense scent of hazelnut and the barrel whiskey. Poured heavy, dark opaque brown with very little head. Reappears when you swirl the glass but only modestly. In the snifter glass the aroma was powerful, hazelnut dominates. Soft creamy texture, not syrupy. I knew it was going to be a strong flavor and it was. Hazelnut, vanilla, chocolate, all present and all equally robust. None tried to dominate the other. Over the top of these flavors was the 12% whiskey barrel alcohol which gave the whole experience a very boozy quality. The finish took the alcohol into the nasal cavity with a modest burn as the flavors and the alcohol refused to diminish. This resulted in each sip occurring long after the last one and I was able to savor this brew much longer than normal. As it warmed, the alcohol intensified. Really enjoyed this imperial stout. The boozy alcohol was not off-putting and each flavor stood its ground against the others. The only reason I did not give it a higher rating is that somewhere in the back of my pallet I felt like they used some artificial ingredients. But they hide it expertly, perhaps the barrel aging did the masking. Looking forward to the 2024 version.
