I bought an Abita variety pack mainly because it has 2 doppelbock’s I’ve never had. So let’s give ‘em a try. Was expecting a darker beer but then realized it says Helles Doppelbock on the can. I assume that means lighter in color. Didn’t get much of a head after pouring. Starts out a little fruity that is not very distinct. I’d say some type of stone fruit. Then you get more of a bready malt with a touch of caramel taste. Has some very light herbal hops that I pick up more in the aftertaste. Has a little alcohol burn to it. I’ve never had a light colored doppelbock. I’m not impressed with this one. It’s okay. I’d like to try a German one if I could find one. (if they even make them)

Ennen siipiä pitää maadottaa itsensä kaattorilla! Kirkas kuparinen väri. Tuoksussa vahva ja makea mallas. Todella kovinnkupliva kärki on imelää mallasta pullollaan. Runko makeaa maltaisuutta ja vanhan mantereen humalaa. Jälkimaussa aavistus tammisuutta makean maltaisuuden ja karvakan toffeen päällä.

LOVED this one. Had it with meatballs over rice with gravy. 11/10 combo.
