At Whiskey River Ranch having a Texas beer by Spoetzl Brewery. A chocolate raspberry Porter, sounds terrific. Dark brown color but poured very light, effervescence and texture seemed like a cola. Overwhelming aroma of raspberry. Flavor is sweet raspberry puree with the chocolate coming in as a background flavor. This seemed much more like a raspberry chocolate flavored soda, not a roasted and malty Porter. Seems like a beer brewed more for the young Seltzer crowd than a true Porter lover. Has good flavor and the combination, though more raspberry dominant, was okay. But never seemed as though I was drinking a porter with the hardiness and deep rustic flavor that you would expect from this category.
