Having this Texas beer that I brought back home. Another duo collaboration with my son-in-law in Texas. Martin House is always a gamble with their beers.
Beautiful deep brown head. Strong aroma of dark chocolate and something funky, a pungent floral and musty. Initial flavor is a strong bittersweet chocolate, this is good. A lightly toasted edge also adds to the experience. What follows is a less pleasant sweet floral taste that is supposed to be the honey but is, to me, an artificial substitute. Not the oppressive metallic taste of some artificial flavors, but not the original essence of the flavor. As the beer warms, the artificial quality seems stronger.
This beer has the makings to be really good but the honey seems absent from the flavor. With honey in its name, that just doesn't seem appropriate.
