Drunken Sailor is a rich Breakfast Stout which uses a combination of 8 different malts and lactose for a complex and smooth body. This base of chocolate and caramel is elevated by specially selected Brazilian coffee beans that give an aroma of caramel and dark fruits.

Just spent half an hour setting all equipment up and making my priming solution ready to bottle my latest brew and once I get it in the house the thing’s started bubbling away again! 😂
Back to the shed for the beer, but not before I crack one open myself.
My first beer by local newbies Powder Monkey. Some of their stuff doesn’t seem too inspiring but on the back of this I’ll definitely be giving the others a try.
It’s all about the coffee of course and despite the varied grain bill it’s got quite a thin body to it, which I like. It makes it chuggable, massively so in fact. It’s smooth and chocolatey with a big raw coffee hit. No roastiness and not much bitterness, just really full flavoured and sessionable.

I am not a big stout drinker, I like a lot of porters very much but somehow, when ales go too far to the dark side I just don't enjoy them. This Breakfast Stout by the fabulous people at Powder Monkey Brewing Co. is something a little bit special. The aroma fills the nostils with a heady coffee-chocolatey scent. The taste is superbly well balanced with a lovely malty flavour that isn't overrun with the chocolate, coffee and caramel notes. It's extremely drinkable with no heaviness which belies its 5%. It's the third beer I have tried from Powder Monkey Brewing Co and it's the third one of theirs that I have really, really enjoyed.
