So so dark brown with golden head that quickly fades. Not quite jet black or ruby as other stouts are but certainly opaque. Complex on the nose with roasted malts, forest fruit like port, yeasty like marmite, a touch of rum and raisin and give it a swirl to release black treacle and cocoa. It smells alot nice after a swirl actually, the yeast subsides. Woah, complex and transformative in the mouth... It starts off oaty, silky and syrup-like with flavours of black fruit, marmite, and chocolate and then heat arrives followed by rum and raisin, all of which is accompanied by the roasts of which 100 Guinness' could only dream off. Ha, I exaggerate, and I have had roastier stouts than this, but the big big yeast, treacle etc could be covering it over a bit. Need I say it's thick in the mouth, full bodied and with a long finish. At first, on initial sip my reaction was 'wow/don't know if I like this'. I'm a fan of marmite, quite a big fan to be fair but drinking it in tandem with treacle I'm not so sure of. Still, it is growing on me, several layers to get through that pull you in different directions of contemplation and appreciation. Chocolate and port in particular develop with time and make for a more rounded flavour overall, still, Marmite is the dominant force in this brew. On reflection I'd say this is not one I'd reach for again but I respect it. Instead I'd much rather have a Goatsmoker, the best stout I've had to date (or at least my favourite anyway)! I feel bad marking this as low as 3.5ish, but do I rate it based on quality or my enjoyment? Probably the later, and thus it's getting less than 4/5. If it were to be rated on quality then surely it would fetch 4.5+. How do you feel about marmite, rum, raisin, cocoa and treacle? Sounds tasty? Then have at it! Happy Halloween 🎃

Definitely not a school night beer. Extreme to say the least. 👍🍺

Second beer by this brewery and only discovered them recently. Probably my favourite new brewery of the last year to be honest. This is what it all comes down to, 100% grains, a bit of sexy water, some accompanying suitable hops and some robust yeast… and the end product is liquid black gold. Like someone mixed Nutella and Marmite, liquified it and stuck it in a can. 🥰
