Abbey Stout
4.2% Stout
Abbey Stout is brewed with the finest of ingredients. We have combined hops with a hint of fruitiness and slightly dry crispiness with chocolate malted barley, to give smooth, chocolatey caramel tones, that will stay with you long after the last mouthful.

Compares to the other Pint Please test stout from Brewmaster this - even with the same low alcohol content - was immediately a yummy new acquaintance. The smooth chocolatey base is nicely supported by the claimed fruityness. I wish they'd only work on the label - keeping the handcrafted feel but graduating to a slightly more professional look to make sure the great beer is not passed by on the shelves.

Easter ended yesterday. The spring ended today. đŸŒšïžđŸ„¶ The lily is also running the last mile of its journey. The hugely appreciated package from Dundalk Bay Brewery, JJ's Craft Brewing Company and Pint Please is also coming to an end. This is the last remaining beer of the 🇼đŸ‡Ș/đŸ‡«đŸ‡ź delivery. Thank you for this beer as well as for all the other beers. đŸ™đŸ» I rated five Dundalk's beers 2.7-3.5 and JJ's three beers 3.4-4.2. This last beer is also from JJ's, so one more rating is yet to come, but it seems clear that JJ will win this contest. Eight out of nine beers are below 5.5 %, so they could, technically speaking, enter the shelves of the supermarkets in Finland. One is 7.0 %; it was JJ's Oyster Stout and by the way my best assessed beer of the nine. It would fall out of the supermarket eligibility. Now: Abbey Stout. The beer pours basically lucid but the very dark brown color makes it difficult to verify the transparency. There's also a red tint in the beer when portrayed against light. Carbonation is lively but manageable. A pretty beige, velvety head emerges on the top and exceeds one finger. Retention is long. A dense lacing wafts there for quite some time. The scent is roasty and offers a bit of licorice, rye bread and a wisp of burned wood. Fairly simple. The taste receptors encounter roasted malt, bitter charred wood, roasted coffee beans and moderate grassy hops. The profile is quite dry and one-dimensional. The label talks about 'fruitiness' and 'dry crispness' and 'chocolate' and 'caramel'. Well yes, dry crispness is absolutely detectable and later also bitter raw cocoa nibs but otherwise I wonder if I'm tasting the right beer! There's no fruit, neither caramel, nor chocolate unless you count raw cocoa as chocolate. The body is light. It doesn't surprise me at 4.2 % but doesn't disappoint me either. It's just to be expected like that. The beer ends with grassy hopped roasted malt, burned coffee beans and a good pinch of charcoal. The aftertaste lights a fire for the tastebuds and almost burns its fingers in a hurry. The mouthfeel is light, roasty, charred and relatively dry. It's only thinly drying though. Despite the dry and charred features, the mouthfeel is still interestingly smooth, if not soft. The label design I have dissed already in my previous reviews. This time the colors forgive a little bit the otherwise cheap and clumsy layout. All in all, a decent Irish Stout. It starts a bit unwelcoming but our friendship develops over the course when we are done. And indeed, JJ wins.

Nonii viimeinen Pintin lÀhettÀmÀ Irkku maistoon! Etikettigeimi on tÀhÀn mennessÀ huonointa mitÀ olen tÀltÀ panimolta nÀhnyt. Aikalailla tuollainen paintilla tehdyn nÀköinen. Noh eihÀn se onneksi sisÀltöön vaikuta. Lasiin kaatuu lievÀsti lÀpikuultava stout rusehtavalla vaahdolla. Tuoksussa paahteisuutta, pÀhkinÀÀ, suklaata ja pientÀ hiivaa. Ihan hyvÀ vaikka aika kevyt tuoksu. Makupuolella mennÀÀn samalla linjalla paahteisen maltainen ja leipÀmÀinen pienellÀ suklaaviballa. Juotavuus on erittÀin hyvÀÀ luokkaa! HyvÀ perus stoutti mielestÀni jonka mielellÀÀn joisi uudestaankin.

Seuraava JJ's:n ja Pint Pleasen lÀhettÀmÀ maistiainen testiin. EipÀ tÀmÀkÀÀn ulkoisilla ansioilla vakuuta, mutta sisÀltö on onneksi parempaa. Lasissa vaaleahko Stout lÀpikuultaa ruskeana, kolajuoman vÀrisenÀ. Tuoksu on taikinaisen leipÀinen, hieman pÀhkinÀinen ja suklainen. Iisi ja pehmeÀ. Maku on helppo ja miellyttÀvÀ. PehmeÀsti maltainen, miedosti paahteinen ja jÀlkimaultaan mukavan kuiva. Suklaata, hieman kypsÀÀ hedelmÀisyyttÀ ja maalaista leipÀisyyttÀ. Soljuu mukavasti kurkusta alas jÀttÀen puhtaan fiiliksen. Levollinen ja rauhallinen tunnelma. Kenties kuten irlantilaisessa kylÀpubissa.

JJn Abbey Stout iltapalaksi. Joulukuun 21. pullotettu.

Makea, kermainen, lajritsainen tuoksu. Semirapsakka kÀrki, ohkainen runko ja hieman vetinen suutuntuma. Voisi mennÀ jooe kesÀjuomana. Makurunko vahvasti paahteisen maltaan tahdittama.
