Cloudy, sludgy medium-brown beer with surprisingly lively carbonation creates a cream-colored, mousse-like head that thickens up to two fingers. The foamy lid melts sluggishly downwards and adorns the top for significantly long. The contracting froth leaves nothing on the side of the glass. The olfactory supply promises moderately sweet malt, truly remote raisin and a small amount of sweet dough. Further, I find faint cardamom but it may well be an illusion created by the doughy aroma. The taste pushes forward a somewhat alcoholic tang that seasons medium-sweet malt and astonishingly distinct hops. I can also detect lemon zest, modest raisin and even more transient prune, followed by a suggestion of lemongrass. The body is medium to medium-full. The beer ends with sweet-leaning malt that has gained also tangy characteristics as well as a bit grassy hops and a whisper of lemongrass. The raisin is fermented. Grapefruit peel and a drop of lemon zest accompany the cocktail. The alcoholic touch can't indeed be missed. The aftertaste teases the tastebuds for a short time only. The mouthfeel is a bit tangy, somewhat strong, herbal and alcoholic. American Barleywines can be challenging due to hoppiness. Also the fullness and sweetness seem to lag behind their English counterparts. This is not my favorite either. Drinkable but no need to revisit.
