Though I'm not entirely keen on this time of the year I'm festive enough to appreciate the seasonal beer realeases that come with it. While everyone around is is setting up lights and hoping for white, I'm finally getting to explore the darkness. This offering from from one of my very local breweries pours a wonderful deep rich ruby that appears blackish until held to a light. A very nice nitro style head forms on top and lingers long enough to tantalize. The nose is treated to a generous cherry that promises to be neither sweet nor tart. Delightfull semi sweet chocolate notes really put it all together. As I begin to explore the taste profile, the first thing I notice is a cough syrup type flavour. As it warms and after a few sips, this becomes overlooked and I can enjoy the chocolate and cherry. There is a mild coffee taste that peeks out. I'm a little dissapointed in the medicinal cherry taste.
