Pyhän Urhon Sahti (2019), Finland

XXIV Finnish Sahti Days @ St. Urho's Pub. This Sahti fills the glass muddy, deep dark brown from the tap. The carbonation is, as expected, more or less nonexistent. Nevertheless, a thin, off-white lace ring emerges on the surface to decorate it for significantly long, actually till the end of the drink. The nose receives, first and foremost, hefty toffee. The toffee is somewhat creamy as if toffee fudge. Wow, this is something new to me! Moreover, I can detect a bit of ripe banana and sweet sharon. Appealing indeed! The taste deviates from what I expected: no toffee at all but soft, sweet bread dough, a bit of bun and a distant note of licorice. I also find weak fermented banana and truly distant citrus somewhere in the horizon. I would have welcomed toffee also in the palate but no can do. The body is light-medium, maximum medium. The beer finishes with somewhat grainy dough, wheat bun, a remote whisper of rotten banana peel and faint citrus peel. The aftertaste keeps the tastebuds active for a long time. The mouthfeel is strongly lip-glueing and somewhat sticky but not actually sappy. It's also surprisingly thin, or should I say "unfull", as well as easy. Started very promising but failed to deliver fully up to the end. (Edit: I had to change this review from the wrong beer to the correct 2019 one.)
