Scaldy Porter is an old homebrewing recipe and has been a favourite amongst the scaldys for some years now. A porter that doesn’t give a shite about what abv you reckon it should be, its focus is on pushing a big malt bill to your nose and bringing you back to your scaldy days if you’ve settled down by now. Lashing together 7 malts with a touch of smoke thrown in, it finishes soft and malty with a back bitterness you know should be there.

Nice looking porter, smooth, jet black body with two fingers of chocolate coloured foamy head. First notes on the nose are dark chocolate, some brown sugar with vanilla and a little over spent, or scalded, espresso. Mouthfeel is smooth, medium bodied with a little carbonation to bring a little character. Taste is a brilliant mix of bitter and sweet. The dark chocolate carries a little sweetness but mostly brings bitterness. This is eased with the brown sugar which brings a little sticky molasses with it, before moving to the bitter malt notes. In the end, all these flavours come together in perfect harmony with a very pleasant aftertaste. Avery nice porter, will try it again.

Harvoin näin miedon porterin arvioin näin korkealle. Tässä on, ainakin tarinan mukaan, jokin vanha kotipanimon resepti. Todella maukasta. Valmistuksessa käytetty runsaasti eri maltaita, mikä maistuu selvästi. Maussa paahteisuutta, eri maltaiden vivahteita, lakritsisuutta ja hieman kahvia. Kevyesti hiilihapotettu.
