Not properly stored. Maple is non-existent in taste. Mostly bitter coffee with super dry finish. All vintages I've bought from Struise that are not made by them have been disappointments.

2018 vuoden erää, pullotettu vähän reilu kaksi vuotta sitten. Tuoksussa kahvia, sen jälkeen vaahterasiirappia. Maku alkaa hiukan katkeralla kahvilla, jota seuraa suklaisuus ja vaahterasiirappi. Jälkimaussa imelän vaahterasiirapin edelleen huomaa. Vaahterasiirappi on muistikuvia miedompi, tai sitten se on miedontunut ikääntyessä. Kahvin voimakkuus, tai oikeastaan terävyys on jopa huomattava. Terävyys ja katkeruus taittuvat kylläkin lämpötilan noustessa lisää. Saman huomasi juuri maistamssani 2018 KBS:ssä, liekö ollut tuoreempanakin, en muista. Suutuntuma keskivahva, ihan passeli. Erinomainen olut, klassikkostatus on ansaittu. Musiikkivalintana Steven Wilson Royal Albert Hallissa. Jo vain.

I've had one bottle after that and I was genuinely surprised when I found another from my basement stash. I thought that I had none left! Pitch black beer with creamy brown foam. Looks absolutely gorgeous! Scent is dominated by powdered chocolate and coffee. Subtle wood and bourbon. Carbonation is very low, but the bubbles feel pretty large. Mouthfeel is not as thick as I remembered, or it has been affected by the age. Still pretty thick and oily with powdered cocoa texture. Taste has clearly taken a hit from the fist of time. Maple syrup is completely gone and all other flavors seem a bit toned down. There's still a lot of chocolate and coffee, and they form the backbone of this beer. Roasted wet barley and dark bread on malty side. Notes of dark dried fruits, such as plums and dates. Disappointingly the bourbon barrel has faded to pretty much non-existent level. Just a faint note of wood and warm vanilla remain. Tad of peat and burnt caramel. Very sweet overall taste. Unpleasant soapy note before the dry dark chocolate bitterness finishes the experience. Long chocolate aftertaste. Nope, this is not meant to be aged, my bad. Best enjoyed relatively fresh. Lacks the intensity it had a year ago. But even now this is a good IS.
