Barrel Aged Advent Calendar Day #12
Bottled 6-7-2018
Bourbon and chocolate notes in the aroma. Taste has bourbon, chocolate, oak and light vanilla notes. Doesn't seem quite as tasty as I remember it being, but it's 4 1/2 years old, so maybe it's past it's prime. Still a solid beer.
The body is medium-full, bordering on full bodied, with a lower amount of carbonation.
I do believe this is my last bottle. It's been fun trying it over the years and I wouldn't be upset if they released it again. High 4/5

Advent Calendar Day #20
2018 vintage, bottled on 6-7-2018
Bourbon, chocolate and roasted malts in the aroma. Taste has bourbon and oak first, followed by chocolate and coffee notes, roasted malts and a hint of vanilla. The bourbon lingers in the aftertaste. At 9.4% it has great bourbon flavor without being boozy; it drinks like a 9.4% abv beer.
The body is medium-full with an appropriately low amount of carbonation.
This is a well made beer. Saugatuck doesn't really get my attention with most of their offerings (the non-barrel aged stuff is pretty good, but nothing special), but they know how to barrel age beers and make them great. They recommend drinking this one within 6 months of bottling, but at 3.5 years, this is still great. 4.5/5

Barrel Aged Advent Calendar beer Day #15
2018 vintage, bottled on 6-7-2018
Dark fruits, bourbon and oak in the aroma. Taste has huge dark fruits up front (raisins and plums), followed by bourbon, chocolate and finishing with oak. Such a tasty beer. I hope they brew it again. 4.5/5

I already thought pretty highly of this stout, but it's especially delicious tonight. Very reminiscent of BBA Expedition Stout. I'm going to have one of those to compare. Not going to be a typical side by side review, but I will update with my findings. 4.5/5
Update: As tasty as this is, upon trying it next to BBA Expedition Stout, Expo takes the cake. This one is damn tasty, don't get me wrong, but it's like a more subdued version of BBA Expo. Still a 4.5/5

Chocolate and bourbon in the aroma. Some toffee as well. Taste has dark fruits, toffee, chocolate and some bourbon. The bourbon is definitely more prominent in the aroma than the taste. As this continues to warm, the bourbon and oak from the barrel aging is starting to show up more. This is tasty. I may continue to buy this as I see it to keep my 4-pack topped off. 4.25/5

In the aroma, I'm getting chocolate and some oak. Slight bourbon as well. Taste has chocolate and caramel, with a bit of bourbon and oak following. Damn tasty. Definitely the best barrel aged beer from Saugatuck Brewery so far this year. I may grab another 4-pack before it disappears. High 4.25/5
