Looks like I'm getting to scratch my RIPA itch. I wonder why they're so rare.
Pour from the can was unremarkable leaving a cloudy red body with a copper hue around the edges. There was some copper tinged foam at the start that slowly mounted before settling on three fingers and dissipated quickly.
Scent is roasted barley, some citrus and some dried fruit. A little biscuit malt ads in at the end but it's not hugely complex.
In the mouth it feels a little slick and a moderately foamy. Decent carbonation melds well giving a little bite at first with a mellow finish that leaves a coating in the mouth.
Taste is decent, surprising alcohol burn upfront, even though it's only 6.5%. Malted barley up front but the rest is a little dull. Generic citrus and pine, with the dried fruit, biscuit and toffee only phoning it in.
As a red ale, this is very good, but as a Ripa, it's very average.
