If red onion is Calibria's #1 agricultural product, a citrus called bergamot surely rates high, as well. This beer is a bergamot Saison. The beer stands in the balmy 24°C water of the Tyrrhenian Sea 🏖️🌊🍺 The beer displays turbid, dirty gold tint. Carbonation is laidback and shows a cloud-white cotton head that grows one finger tall. Retention is of medium duration as a soft lacing adorns the top for some time. The nose receives bitter orange peel, wheat malt, lemon and a distinct floral note. All in all, quite subdued it is. The taste receptors have bitter orange peel, lemon pith, a drop of tangerine, wheat malt and stuffy yeast. Not particularly fresh. The body is light. The finish doesn't deviate anywhere from the familiar path. It gives a long-lasting sensation in the mouth. The mouthfeel is light, slightly fragrant, still somewhat musty and closed but simultaneously juicy. Powerless. Good try but not exactly what I hoped for.

Thirst quencher after climbing up and down a zillion stairs to the former monastry of Santuario Santa Maria dell'Isola Tropea. This local Pale Ale comes from Spilinga. A big bottle shared for two will do the job. 👍🏻 The beer is obviously pale amber in color. A bit difficult to verify since the mug is plastic and untransparent. Carbonation is spritzy and retention very long. The head is off-white moussy. Cute. The nose enjoys zesty grapefruit, orange peel and a yeasty hit. The scent is quite restrained but refreshing fruity. The flavors come forward much more pronouncedly on the tongue. The zesty citrusy nuances are not to be missed. I'm picking orange peel, lemon pith, hefty wheat malt, a tad yeast and something floral. The taste profile is slightly tart, crisp and fairly drying. The body is light. The finish is equally citrusy and refuses to leave the yeasty punch anywhere. Wheat malt is observable. The end takes long. The mouthfeel is light, slightly crisp, fragrant and also a bit tart as well as quite drying. It's effervescent and refreshing — not sure if the latter quality is because of the context though. Relatively easy.
