East Coast Squeeze IPA, Canada

As I poured this I caught a tease of the aroma and thought "well that can't be right." So after waiting for the two finger white foamy head to settle back into this groovy looking orange copper delight, I got right in there and took a long deep inhalation. Massive mellow malt of artisanal bread and biscuits with nuts are the predominant aromas. Now while I'm absolutely enamoured with what my senses are telling me, I'm also very confused. I recheck the label. Yes,... supposed to be an East coast IPA. Weird where are the hops. I give the glass a swirl and take another nasal sample. There hiding just under the bakery portions is a creamy melon and mildly peach like hint of juicy hops. I'm torn between a sort of strawberry or tropical fruit kind of thing going on too. After a few moments to revitalize the olfactory prowess, I take one more try. It seems to me that what I was interpreting as bread and biscuit may in fact be more hoppy than I thought. Without further ado, down the hatch and bottoms up. Very creamy smooth mouthfeel. No bitterness but ample juicy hops goodness. A treat for sure. Tropical fruit, peach, melon, grapefruit, and yes that lovely bread malt base. This is a joy to drink. As the glass goes on, the malt takes a back seat to the hops. Even they start to lose the delicacy they first present and the lupilin comes forward threatening bitterness but never actually producing any. A damn fine brew. ** I have to do an update. After warming somewhat the grapefruit in particular but as well as the other hops flavors really gain strength and star to perform their roles much more surely.
