As I pour out the rich brown beer and it starts building a thick tan coloured head the consistency of mousse, I'm already looking forward to this one. Decadant roast malts and scorched caramel reach my nose. Toffee and an almost bourbon barrel aroma join them. I'm not getting any hops yet, more like a porter or milder stout. After a few more deep inhaled I start to discover some hops. It's hard to pick any distinct contributions as the are tucked snugly in the blanket of malty greatness. Possibly a wee bit floral fruity and pine. Not an ipa yet. Wow. Just wow. What an excellent beer. The hops ride to your tongue on the first wave and there is not much bitterness. I'm guessing late or dry hopped? Some sort of floral and mild pine flavours but they are lost in flood of malt tastes. Caramel, roasty, nut, slight chocolate, slighter coffee near the end, and an earthy note to it as well. I think this pushes my boundary of ability to actually describe this beer. So without further ado, it's smashing. Love it. Delicious. Very nice indeed.
