Well my fellow beer lovers, here is another one that has me excited as a kid on Christmas. I love a good stout or porter (who am I kidding? I love all beer.) and one of my new favourite breweries has released one. 🤘😃🤘 Although It looks black, It is actually a deep gorgeous red that is not opaque as revealed by the flashlight test. A decent two finger tan colored head is built of medium sized tightly packed bubbles. It shrinks after a little while leaving a solid foam layer that lasts. Good sticky lacing coats the glass throughout the drink. Roast aromas backed with chocolate fill the nose and bring little tiny hints of earthy coffee and dark chocolate with it. When given a little swirl the malt aromas thin out and let some hops scent seep through. Not strong and without any specific notes, just enough to let you know they are in there. I really want to mention words like industrial, tire, and oil but I do NOT want to give an unpleasant impression. It flows gently on the tongue, and is almost smokey with it's roast malt and bitterness. Quite dry and presenting some burnt chocolate flavours. It does leave some lingering bitterness on the middle and back of the tongue. Robust without being too heavy. As it warms it does gain a little sweetness that lets the chocolate and a bit of caramel take a more distinct role. There is also a wee bit of boozyness near the back of the sip. I love chocolate porters and milk stouts but this is a nice change. Roasty, dry, slightly bitter. Well done Mt. Arrowsmith. More proof that you earned that British Columbia Beer Awards "brewery of the year " award. 👏👏👏🤘🍻🍺
