It's vappu, so it's time to sip mead! This one's Braggot style (malt + honey) mead. Rye Braggot with rum & vanilla oak aged (barrel aged or foeder, idk).
Bottled on 29/09/18.
Scent is dark malty and surprisingly herbal, even tart. Bit oaky. Blackberry.
Taste is kinda like Imperial stout with a weird honey/herbal twist. There's flavours of dark malts, vanilla, slight oak, blackberries. Finish is sweet-ish, herbal, even slightly bitter.
No sign of alcohol, except very little touch at finish. Mouthfeel is quite thick and smooth.
Combination of different flavours. Rather nice.

Had to pick the strongest stuff from the office fridge because of my hard flu! This 16% ABV mead does the job.
Not very sweet but a bit wood like because of the barrel aged. Nothing special for me but helps with the flu I believe.๐๐ค๐ป

Nam! Tosiaan taas yks kovimpia erikoisia maistamiani. Voltit ei puske lรคpi vaan makua hallitsee vanilja ja tumman oluen paahteisuus. Tykkikamaa! Ps. Mahtava nimi ๐

First Mead style beer for me.
Bottle. Bottled on: 29.9.2018
Temperature: +14 degrees
Opaque, coffee brown beer. Tan head is small and soon gone. Carbonation bubbles can be seen rising to the surface. Looks mystical: 4/5
Nose has honey and rum sweetness with some vinegary-acid spiciness (?). The spiciness is probably from rye malt, or at least from that. Notable licorise aroma and some soft vanilla. Elegant, I like this: 4,25/5
Mouthfeel is medium-full, oily/velvety, with less carbonation than I thought. Oak aging is there and overcomes the extremely mild bitterness (85 IBUs, what the fuck!? ) : 4/5
Taste: malty and honey sweetness are well balanced, rum, licorise and little bit sticky spiciness from rye... Vanilla drowns in the thick backbone of residual sweetness, which how ever is not gloying. Alcohol taste is there but suprisingly low concidering the ABV of 16% : 12/15
If I have understood correctly, Braggot style meads should be balanced between malt and honey and this definately is! Very enjoyable beer, I must get more Meads if they are like this!!!๐ป๐ป16/20
