A local harvest, 2015's Harvest Rye features Skagit grown and malted 'Alba' barley, which profers a silky mouthfeel and moderate body to the beer. The highlight of this brew is that the base malt. We used Alba from Skagit Valley Malting, care of Knutzen Farms in Burlington! We also added about 350# of flaked rye, so there are spicy, bubblegum rye flavor notes. The "bubblegum" nose, gives way to similar though slight flavors and a spiciness from the rye, that is balanced with American noble hop character and just a touch of lingering bitterness. Overall, a great beer for a cool fall day in NW Washington, and an excellent pairing for the abundant local harvest.
