The name comes from the use of Crystal hops and Crystal malts. A natural pairing as the many degrees of roasted charcter from the malts give a toasted sweetness and full body while the herbal, citrus hoppiness cuts through. This balance makes for a big flavor beer that is refreshingly easy to drink.
