The Helles and Maibock styles of beer have long been compared and contrasted. In the past, a Helles lager, was a light lager created in Germany to compete with the clean lagers of Bohemia. Traditionally, the Maibock was created as a seasonal version of the Helles; Brewed in winter, for release in spring.
