Willettized Coffee Stout (2017)
12.6% Imperial Stout
Our friends over at Kentucky’s own Willett Distillery have one kind of barrel: wood. And they put two things in them: Bourbon and Rye. We were fortunate enough to get some of their Bourbon barrels, and we put our Imperial Stout in them. It’s a chocolatey, coffee-y, smoky, Bourbon-y beast of a barrel-aged thing. Word.

Barrel Aged Advent Calendar Day #15 Bottled in 2017 Smells like a nice stout with a hint of remaining coffee. Taste has bourbon, roasted malts, some coffee and oak. Based on my memory, this one definitely has more coffee that the one I cracked last year. I could very well be mistaken. There's some booze warmth on the way down, but nothing crazy. The body is medium-full with a lower amount of carbonation. I wasn't expecting a lot with this one, being 8 years old, but it's still a really good stout. As a coffee stout, it's a letdown, but I'm still enjoying it. I haven't seen this year's yet, but I'm ready for it. 4/5

Barrel Aged Advent Calendar Day #18 Bottled in 2017 Well, after I drank my last one years ago, I thought that was it. I acquired 2 bottles in a trade a few years later, and I'm finally getting to one of them. I'm not expecting much, being a 7+ year old coffee stout, but hopefully I'm surprised. Bourbon, rye spiciness and oak primarily in the aroma. There's some evidence of coffee, but it's largely faded. Taste has a nice flavorful bourbon to start, with notes of rye showing up next. The coffee is all but gone, but there's definitely some evidence of it having been there at some point. The oak shows up in the mid-palate, then reappears in the finish. The body is medium-full with a lower amount of carbonation. While this is (as expected) a shadow of what it one was as a coffee stout, it's still a damn fine stout. I would gladly drink this regularly. I have one bottle left, and while I'm tempted to pull it and drink it, I might just hold onto it for a little while longer. The lack of coffee is disappointing, but expected, but this beer is anything but. High 4.25/5

Continuing my coffee beer night with this one. It's my last bottle. All good things must come to an end. Coffee and bourbon in the aroma. A bit of rye spiciness as well. Taste has bourbon first. Following this, I'm getting coffee, chocolate and some of the rye spiciness. I'm also getting some oak from the barrel aging. I'm digging this. I will definitely be looking for this next time it's released. Affordable and very well made. 4.25/5

Such a great beer. One of my all-timers. Bumping it up from past 4.5 scores to a 5. Only one bottle left after this one. How long can i hold out? Love the aroma and taste. Always good to have a 12 percenter after work at 1:30 am
