Woodmaster 10.5%, Short's Brewing Company, United States
2 notes
Woodmaster
10.5% Brown Ale
Woodmaster is a high gravity, American Brown Ale fermented with Northern Michigan maple syrup and toasted pecans. This dark brown, full bodied ale is rich with sweet malt and syrup flavors. These flavors are complemented by the presence of hop aromas and a faint nuttiness. The very first batch of Woodmaster was brewed in Bellaire on March 20, 2007. It was the 289th batch of beer brewed at Shorts, and is one of the original beers from the Short's Imperial Beer Series (#7 of 13 to be exact).

Pecans and a sweet aroma, presumably from the maple syrup. Taste has the pecans first, followed by a mix of sweet and slightly roasted malts and finishing with the maple syrup. A good balance all around and very enjoyable. Didn't realize I'd already had this one before, but I'm glad to have tried it again. 3.75/5

Not getting much of the maple syrup, but I'm getting a nuttiness in the aroma, presumably from the pecans. Definitely getting both the syrup and pecans in the taste. Interesting beer. Glad i tried it, but not sure I'd buy it again. I'd drink it again, though. 3.5/5
