Munich has given birth to many styles of beer. They answered the Czech Pilsner with Hellesbier (less hoppy than Pils) and a darker version called Munich Dunkel (dunkel means "dark" in German). Dunkels are usually brewed with Pils malt, but with a generous dose of Munich malt and other specialty malts that deliver an intense toasty / plum / currant character.
