Pours jet black with a sustained but thin head.the taste is strong, befitting this +10% stout. More character than a soap actor in a panto, and more taste than an interior decorator. I like it.

Cheeky little Sunday evening tipple. Pours jet black with no head. The taste is full and with bitter liquorice and molass undertones.

Smooth and syrupy, almost pudding-like, but with just the right fizz for a great balance. Coffee, liquorice and fruit are all kept in check and nothing tastes forced or fake. Loads of rich, tasty molasses make the finish just a touch too sweet for my taste, but not sickeningly so - reign that sugar in a tad and this would be near perfect. My new favourite supermarket stout. A good wine-aged single malt (like a Dalmore) would back this up beautifully, cutting through most of the sweetness and leaving just a hint behind.

...but the Imps asleep! Lovely deep black, with a smooth, oh so smooth, taste.

I love the rich black color of this imperial stout, which aptly hints to it's roasted character. It starts off with a roasted black coffee that transitions to a black liquorice flavor. I couldn't notice the molasses or oatmeal through the other overpowering flavors. At 10.5% ABV it's quite a strong beer, unfortunately it's not balanced particularly well as the alcohol and complex taste give it a sense of acidity.
