As I open the bottle and pour the dark mahogany brew a fine one finger light fawn coloured head appears and lingers a while. This is a slow beer, unimpressive to begin with - the nose isn't very robust just hinting at medium sweet chocolate, plumbs and coffee. I take a slurp and hey ho same old same old. This little lady will not be rushed so I set it to one side for a while to let it breath and boy did that pay off!
I swirl the the beer in the glass and readdress it, oh yes! It's all hale and hearty, alive and kicking. The aromas and flavours are much more full bodied now it's all milk chocolate and coffee cake with nuts and fruity bits. The mouthfeel is now low in carbonation but it still has a medium body and quite smooth presence to it, but to round it off there's a lovely warming finish to the Amrita. As I sit on the decking of our holiday home listening to the Canada geese and enjoying the sunset I feel like a true Gipsy Hill Nomad.
