Eisbarleywine. Officially, I guess, it should be Freeze-distilled Beer. Whatever. The story behind this beer is, anyway, that the brewery produced a Barley Wine which they then freeze-distilled in –25°C, just like an Eisbock.
Now, after-sauna relaxation. And some bbq stuff, too. Murky, deep dark brown beer. A creamy lace ring adorns the surface neatly.
Dark malt, marginally roasted, a bit of dark chocolate, raw cacao powder and a wink of... cinnamon. Interesting!
The tongue enjoys dark roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, brown sugar, crushed cacao bean and molasses. A piney hoppy slam follows behind. However, no standard BW elements like date or raisin. Good though.
The body is medium to medium-full. The end is relatively roasty, even a tad burned malty. And hoppy. Like the American variant of BW.
The mouthfeel is medium-full, roasty, moderately burned, a tad dry and slightly drying. Glues lips though.
Well, I expected a sweet encounter but got a rather dry one. Not sure if freeze distilling therefore was an apt way forward.
