Poured well though the glass is less than stellar. Pours jet black, I feel as though there is the potential for some foamy head but that the capacity of the glass is holding it back. Nonetheless there are trace amounts of mocha coloured foam and there are no visible traces of carbonation as the body seems to be impenetrable by natural light.
Aromas of bitter dark chocolate, sweet caramel, even sweeter molasses, some dried fruits and a hint if vanilla. As sweet as it sounds, the dark chocolate and high abv keep it all balanced.
Surprisingly, the body is medium and not as heavy as I had expected. Slight syrupy texture, with very basic levels of carbonation leaving an oily coating in the mouth.
Taste is molasses and vanilla up front, delivered in a slightly lighter feeling body than before. Some brown sugar starts to seep through but I wonder if this is a misinterpretation of the caramel? If it is, that's on me. The chocolate re-emerges though not as dark as before but what feels like bitter malt, and spent espresso appear after the fact. To restore balance no doubt.
Not the best Lineman beer but still yards ahead of the rest.
