FOAM: Dark brown, rather fast, leaving tiny bit of veil over the beer. GREY’S VIEW First sip is lovely. Well rounded, plentifull and playfull carbonation takes you under its wing. Mouthfeel is beautifully soft and firm. I taste chocolate dipped dry dark berries, some drye rye bread, hints of mixed nuts and of course malts in various forms. Aftertaste feels liquifying with mildly roasted coffee, creaminess and nice warmth in the end. OTHER NOTES: Classic stuff. Nice balance and clear presentation. BOTTLED 19/12/2018 TASTED 28/12/2020

Surprise! Another vertical tasting. 2017, 2018 and 2020 vintages. Rather than side by side and using 3 glasses, I'm gonna do them one by one. I'll update the review as I progress. I started with 2017, even though now that I started, I probably should have started with the fresh batch. Oh well, can't unopen it. 2017 (Bottled 11-6-17): Chocolate, roasted malts and some light coffee notes in the aroma. Taste has dark fruits (raisins and plums) to start, followed by somewhat bitter roasted malts, coffee notes and chocolate. A lot going on in this one. Balance is pretty good. No one flavor dominates. The dark fruits and roasted malts linger in the aftertaste. Body is medium-full and the carbonation is low, as expected. Age has treated this one very well. 4.25/5 2018 (Bottled 11-23-18): Roasted malts, chocolate and coffee notes in the aroma. Taste has chocolate, roasted malts, coffee and a little bit of dark fruits come through on the back end. Chocolate and roasted malts linger in the aftertaste. Body is medium-full and the carbonation is appropriately low. Definitely different than the 2017 vintage, but I think I actually like this one a little bit more. The chocolate is more pronounced and the coffee notes stand out more. I don't think I can give this a 4.5, but it's definitely a high 4.25/5 2020 (Brewed 3-3-20): Sweet chocolate, roasted malts and coffee in the aroma. Taste has chocolate, roasted malts and coffee notes. Definitely the sweetest of the three years. Chocolate and roasted malts linger in the aftertaste. Body is medium-full just like the other two years, with an appropriately lower amount of carbonation. To be honest, while this beer ages well, I think I like this year's version the best. I like the sweetness. Definitely a good night of beer drinking and I'll probably sleep well. 4.5/5 Weighted average of 4.33/5

Olisiko jopa mun ensimmäinen olut tältä panimolta. Melkein vuosi sitten, marraskuussa ostettu imperial stout, joten eiköhän nyt ole hyvä aika tämä avata. Pullotuspäiväystä ei näy, mutta eiköhän viime vuoden puolella tai 2017 vuoden lopulla tehty. Tuoksussa paahdettua mallasta, rouhittua kahvia, yllättäen lakritsia sekä hivenen kaakaota. Sellainen perinteisempi stout-tuoksu. Toki makukin on kuivan kahvisen rouheinen sekä maltainen. Hieman alkoholi huomauttelee itsestään. Perinteinen imp ilman kikkailuja tai lisättyjä mausteita. Hieman tylsähkö, mutta toki laadukas.

Kaatuu lasiin mustana, ohuen tummanruskean vaahon kera. Tuoksuu voimakkaalle kahville, siirappiselle ja jotenkin yrttiselle. Maussa perinteikkään Russian Imperial Stoutin ainekset: paahteinen mallas, kahvi, voimakas makeus, salmiakkisuus ja sitten tietenkin prosentitkin kohallaan. Lisänä myös yrttisyyttä, siirappia ja suolaa. Jälkimaku on kitkerä, alkoholinen ja voimakkaan makea. Hyvin tehty, suora Imperial Stout, jossa jännä yrttisyys pitää kuitenkin ajatukset jännän puolella!

Pullon kyljessä ehkä 19.6.17, alusta epäselvä merkintä mut 17 selkeä. Ehkä siis 1,5v jo ikää. Sormen paksuinen ja kuohkean paksu vaalean ruskea vaahto. Mustaa imperial stoutia. Tuoksussa on alkuun paahteisuutta ja kevyttä savuisuutta, reilummin kahvia ja salmiakkia/lakritsaa. Sitten tummaa suklaata, tummaa karamellia, kevyesti pähkinää, kepeästi likööriä ja kevyesti viinisyyttä, hieman hapanta greippiä sekä kepeästi tumman maltaista leipää. Maku on alkuun runsaahkon kuivan ja kuivattavan paahteinen, palanut ja nokinen reiluhkolla kahvisella lisällä sekä happamalla greipillä. Hieman alun tasautuessa tulee mukaan myös kuivakkaa tummaa suklaata, tummaa karamellia ja toffeeta, salmiakkia ja lakritsaa, yrttisyyttä, kepeää tummaa leipäisyyttä sekä paahteista tummaa mallasta. Ompas maukas kokonaisuus ja alun kuivuus jatkaa koko maun läpi. Katkeroa on kepeästi. Jälkimaku on kuivan paahteinen ja nokinen, kahvinen ja kevyen tumman suklainen. Suutuntuma on kepeän hiilihappoinen keskitäyteläisellä rungolla. --------- Todella hyvä perinteinen ja suora imperial stout. Paljon vahvoja makuja sopivasti keskenään. Tasapainoinen. Yksinkertaisen hyvä IS. Vaikea löytää isommin kommentoitavaa.
