I learned yesterday that Ukraine loves beers that imitate traditional Ukrainian dishes. Especially the ones with meat and tomato. The beerstyle is often a Tomato Gose or Vegetable Beer.
This weirdo is brewed with bacon, garlic and chili. Even the name of the beer translates into "Lard with garlic and pepper". I can only ask wtf. I thought I had seen it all. Obviously there are still new things to learn. Ukraine never disappoints in that sense. 👍🏻
I expect something like meat soup. I'm not a huge fan of meat soup but I can give it a chance. Once.
Let's go. The beer doesn't look too inviting: it's relatively turbid, dark rusty orange to brown. A long red chili floats in the beer. I mean a real chili! A modest head emerges on the top and melts fast away.
The scent is exciting! It wakes up my tastebuds. Meat is there, if it's bacon, then it's definitely not fried. A good load of cooked tomatoes. And a spiced atmosphere all over: bouillon, parsley, salt, garlic, a bit of chili capsaicin. I must say that this is one of the oddest beers I have ever had but simultaneously somehow very appealing!
The taste slams immediately straight on the face: massive chili with burning heat. You may be shocked if you are not an experienced chilihead. The other main components include bags of sautéed tomato, smoked bacon and too much salt to give your cardiovascular system any chance of survival in the longer term. The spices to boost up the flavors are garlic, parsley, bouillon, maybe blackpepper, too.
The body is medium-full. Probably because my senses are completely messed up due to capsaicin. But who cares. The end is like a brave chili kick with smoked meat soup.
The mouthfeel can't be anything else but spicy and satiating. Spicy and spiced. Piquant, herbal, umami, medium-full. And vegetal in a positive way. Superunique. One is definitely enough (for my entire lifetime) but surely a strange beer brought to the next level! Glad I bought this.
