Want some Sahti? Why not! This is a commercial edition. I have to start with a piece of criticism: the carbonation is ridiculous! The Sahti starts climbing out of the bottle when uncapping the bottle. Fortunately, it doesn't erupt like a volcano but sneaks gradually but determinedly upwards. I avoid cleaning up a mess when I see what is about to happen and pour a bit to a pint. The massive velvety froth fills the entire glass and it takes a good while to settle. Still, after a really long while, the glass is crowned with a dense foam and decorated by a thick lace ring. Okay, not a very impressive start. Maybe it was just a temporary hiccup here. The color is really unique: creamy, even milky, aureolin yellow. Or light mustard yellow. Warm anyway with a hint of brown in it. The appearance points to wheat. Nevertheless, I guess this is not wheat-based as far as I know. Rather unexpected anyway but not necessarily a bad sign. Let me sniff. Banana is ample. Can't be missed. Otherwise, the scent is surprisingly fruity, I especially spot orange and apricot. The biscuity aroma could well be wheat malt. The taste puts forward fermented banana. The amount is fairly generous. Wheat biscuit hugs orange peel, apricot and a twist of lemon. Fruity. And pleasant although not exactly what I anticipated. The body is full. It really feels like expanding in the mouth because of the foaming. The finish is pretty similar to the actual upfront taste experience. The mouthfeel is full, supersoft and smooth. And effervescent like never before. Traditional on one hand, but untraditional on the other. The effervescence is something that makes me wonder... It doesn't belong to Sahti as I know it. Therefore, a –0.4 reduction in the rating of the otherwise enjoyable brew.
