A nightcap. Yesterday I tasted the maple syrup edition of this series. Now selim pepper. Whatever it is.
The pour is opaque black. As anticipated. The carbonation is relatively shy as it releases a cute tan head that falls short of one finger. The foamy lid dissolves fast to basically zero.
The fragrance offers flavors that differ from yesterday's package: dark chocolate is significantly less pronounced now. And it's superdark with a very high proportion of cacao nibs. The seasoning is the interesting part: cardamon and nutmeg, maybe even a whisper of blackpepper.
The first sip tells that the dark chocolate perks up dramatically from the air. Loads of raw cacao powder in it. Cardamon is obvious, nutmeg much more introverted. And blackpepper. Indeed, it's here! And allspice that combines many of the earlier mentioned flavors. This is getting interesting. [•••] Hey, wait a minute! Why do I feel capsaicin in my throat? Is there chili in the beer? Obviously no but that's what confuses me now. Can the selim pepper offer such a flavor and feeling?
The body clocks medium-full to full. By far not as full as yesterday but still almost full. The finish is peppery and spiced, still can't get away from the idea that there's chili... well, whatever, it disappears fast.
The sensation left on the tastebuds is medium-full, spiced, spicy and warming. Piquant. Less thick and definitely less deep than yesterday but more innovative. Complexity is not the key word here either.
