Eight degrees have bought their brewery back so let's see what they have to offer. This poured well, with only moderate foaming, leaving a golden yellow body, with a very light haze. There is decent carbonation and half a finger of white foam that reduces but maintains in some shape or for. Scent is intensely tropical, lots of mango, and sweet orange citrus upfront. This comes on a base of weiss which feels quite light behind all the the tropical notes, but still contains the wheat, spice and banana that you would expect. Mouthfeel is modratley foamy, starting light but building up some body as it passes. In contrast, the beer turns quite thick and syrup after this, which isn't bad to be honest, but makes it feel a little synthetic. Taste is quite nice, starts with that wall of tropical notes mentioned before but with the extra dimension of pine resin. Lush mango and juicy mandarin to beat the band, while the comparatively harsh pine resin brings a slightly oily contrast. What's peculiar is that the heff/hopf weiss profiles roll in after the fact, banana, clove and wheat. In the first few sips, I liked it alot. It delivered a reasonable weiss beer but the mandariana bavaria hops brought a nice sweet, juicy element to it. It was very fresh. However, the tropical element, quickly took over and dominated. Rather than this being a weiss with a hint of sweetness, it became a tropical ale with a light weiss finish. A good idea with great potential but needs some refinsment.
