This is a Texas beer that Ryan found for us to Duo. German chocolate cake is my absolute favorite so I hope this will be delicious. Modest dark brown head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. Texture is both gentle, soft and smooth. The taste delivers chocolate, but not German chocolate. More of a deep dark chocolate and it's followed by a sharp hoppy bite of bitterness. It hits early in the flavor profile not toward the end where you would expect. A lightly roasted coffee slowly appears and the chocolate evolves into a creamy milk chocolate. Ryan absolutely hates this beer. That hop bite arrives so early did it bothers him for the rest of the beer. Not me. I don't mind it and my palate quickly acclimated to it. What I don't like about this beer is where's my damn German chocolate cake flavor? No caramel, no coconut, no light easy going chocolate. How can they name this German Chocolate Cake? Another example where they printed the can before they tasted the beer that comes out of the vat. I like the beer but it's totally misrepresented.
