Ryan is ready to have this Duo beer I brought back from Texas. We love these Boulevard limited release beers.
Open the cap in immediately got a huge breath of alcohol. And raisins. Left the bottle as murky brown river water. Hazy and has plenty of sediment in the bottom of the glass. Aroma from the snifter glass still conveys the alcohol and the raisin with a touch of spice. That first sip is special. Some beers hide their high alcohol content. Not this one. It's bold and proud of it and doesn't hide any of it. Warms to the stomach and puts a chill down your arms. The raisin flavor is dominant and the rye whiskey blends in. Coats the mouth and leaves a lasting finish reminiscent of a Merlot wine. Really sweet in the beginning and as the finish arrives it turns slightly dry. The beer has a lot of effervescence and continues throughout. I'm not real familiar with rye whiskey barrels. I never tasted the barrel part, never got any oak, but the rye was awesome.
This never really battled for a 5.0 but it constantly improved this rating as Ryan and I enjoyed it to the point that it got really close. Now I'm going to finish the last of this beer and chew my way through this remaining sediment.
