La Maousse Tonka & Cassis, Switzerland
Flight 4/5 looks different: murky, deep dark brown with a distant purple reflection and a bronze silky head. Tonka in the fragrance. No doubt about it. Vanilla, cinnamon, cacao nibs, blackcurrant and blackberry can be listed as the olfactory components this time. Innovative combination that actually works fairly neatly. Maybe I will try the same medley once myself. Blackcurrant intensifies significantly on the tongue while the tonka is much less prominent. Still recognizable anyway with the familiar variables of vanilla and cinnamon but much much more modest now. Cacao nibs can still be detected. Otherwise, really berry tweaked. The body clocks medium, which is barely satisfactory at 9.3 %. The tail gives the same nuances as the earlier experience. A unique combination that wouldn't come to my mind first when brewing a Stout. The impression in the mouth is medium, berry-rich, astonishingly juicy, still quite desserty, marginally tart even and a tad drying. Interesting for sure but suffers from lightness. Or "unfullness". P.S. Just had a chat with the owner of this place. Great guy! He said he is happy to see a beer enthusiast in his place. This is a craft beer bar but 98 % of the people come here for other reasons. I mean, of course, for the beer but they don't necessarily taste the beers like I do. And by the way, this place seems to be Pride and non-binary friendly.  🏳️‍🌈⚧️ He also mentioned a Swiss or French dessert that this beer tries to imitate but I can't remember its name. Something with chocolate and raspberry anyway.
