2022 Bourbon Barrel Commitment Special Barrel Variant 001, United States
5.0
Ryan had a tough week and he demanded that we drink a very special Duo beer tonight. Doesn't get much more special than this, a very limited release 2022 Saint Arnold's Commitment Variant 001. This is even more rare than the normal Commitment Series. We both agreed that this is the most fantastic aroma emerging from the top of a bottle we've ever experienced. Strong bourbon alcohol that's definitely Barrel aged, dark fruit that conveys raisin and a sweet molasses. I've always loved a delicious aroma and this is one of the best. Poured jet black with a very small head that disappeared completely. First taste gave me a hit of strong oaked bourbon. The 16.6% alcohol warmed the tongue and all the way to the stomach. Sweet dark stone fruit led the way inside a strong roasted malt. Traces of pure almond sit gently in the background. An oily film coats the inside of the mouth but still somehow leaves a dry experience in the middle of the tongue during the finish while continuing to a clinging residual sugar. This is special and I knew it as soon as I took off the cap. The scent immediately filled the air that increased my anticipation. We met the brewer in the barrel room when on tour last year and had a Commitment directly from the barrel, uncarbonated. When asked when this 18 months Barrel aged will be released to the public, he simply said "When it's ready". Best answer I've ever heard. I wonder if this was it. Anyway, easiest and fastest 5.0 ever. If you are only able to visit one brewery in the entire Southeast, it should be Saint Arnold's in Houston.
