Sweet rich vanilla from bourbon casks is balanced by drier more vinous character and slight smoke from the second fill of a virgin oak barrel that previously held our 2019 strong smoked ale. Beer Gonzo Advent Calendar 2020 #15 Barrel aged? Really? Bourbon? Really? Anyway I think this is a good Imperial Stout. Smooth, dry, roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Lots of liquorice in aroma and in taste. Some Bourbon and Vanilla in aftertaste.
