Higher Grounds
11.0% Imperial Flavoured Stout / Imperial Pastry Stout
Higher Grounds is a celebration of the art of barrel-ageing, stout brewing and coffee roasting. Built around a blend of Guatemalan, Brazilian and Colombian beans, the complexity of flavour runs the gamut from sweet cherry and forest fruits to dark chocolate and caramel. To condition a stout on these beans is a high wire act where the malts and the oak must be in perfect harmony with the coffee. And having spent over two years in wood, the vanilla smoothness elevates the brew into something truly unique.

Tuoksu taas kerran aivan mahtavaa Bourbon tynnyrin, kahvin ja paahteisen maltaan yhdistelmää. Samat sävelet maussa. Lisänä marjaisuutta ja suklaata. Jälkimaku painottuu tynnyrin tuomaan kuivuuteen, Bourboniin ja suklaisuuteen.

Karamell, Röstmalze, schwarze Brotkruste. Alles ist cremig und ölig. Alkohol ist super eingebunden. Schwache Karbo. Leicht bitter. Schön dicht.

School night treat last night, and I’m a sucker for a coffee stout so couldn’t resist this one. What a beauty! Everything I like about coffee and stout brought together in a 330ml can… There’s the intense bittersweet espresso flavours with hints of red berries. There’s oak and vanilla, rather subdued but definitely evident. There’s sweetness and a thick oily presence in the mouth. It’s smooth, really smooth. Only at the end do you get a nice warming boozy hit, and even that is as smooth as you like. This could have been a coffee liqueur for all I knew, a liquid dessert in every sense. 4 years since my last Tempest beer and it seems I’ve been missing out!
