Thomas Hardy's Ale 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 steht rotbraun im Glas. Schaum bildet sich bei diesem 11,7 Prozent starken Strong Ale / Barley Wine nicht. Olfaktorisch kommt die leicht ölige Fruchtschwere zur Geltung, Wein, etwas Holzfass, leicht säuerliche Süße und eine kleine Alkoholnote. Am Gaumen springt zunächst die wärmende Süße ins Auge. Spritzigkeit ist erwartungsgemäß kaum vorhanden. Dafür ist das Ale aromatisch und kraftvoll, mit einer leichten Säure ausgestattet. Ein schärfender Alkoholstich rundet ab. Nichts für zwischendurch, nichts für ungeübte Genießer. Dafür ein solider Trunk, um einen kalten Winterabend gediegen ausklingen zu lassen. Dazu passt für mich Mandarine 🍊 oder Nuss-Schokolade.
